Both companies stopped hiring new drivers several weeks ago mainly in response to new NYC laws.

They shouldn't hire anymore, there are too many cars more than cabs. Many drivers are popping up in NJ instead of NYC.

This is because demand exceeds the supply of drivers on the NJ side and both companies provide bonuses for drivers who take riders in NJ.

The cap should have been reached years ago.
Now we have ready to retire yellow taxis losing their retirement funds.

Blame the high cost of yellow cabs, as well as the poor service. Yellow cabs are often the most dangerous aggressive drivers on the road

Demand is huge but these people should be using mass transit. If the market meets the demand then nobody can drive because it would be a complete standstill in Manhattan which it literally is during the day.

So sure market is huge but doesn't justify having a car for each person that needs to go somewhere in NYC when there's not enough roads. Cars are the worst way to travel in a city with tight streets, short distances, and tons of pedestrians.

I can get from Penn Station to Central Park quicker by walking than the bus because that's how bad the wait and traffic.

dislike Uber drivers. they stop in the middle of the street and make illegal turns. there is an uptick in congestion because of Uber and Lyft. Traffic was always bad but I feel it has gotten worse in my 30 plus years living here.

If the city is concerned about congestion, then definitely rideshare cars should be limited.

Oh boo hoo... It is beyond stupid to have Uber and Lyft drivers driving around EMPTY and idling, which is precisely what they do. I saw two or three of them by 53rd off of Park the other morning just sitting there empty and a cop came along and had them move, as they were in a no standing zone. They are causing so much congestion and litter as well. These drivers loiter all over the place, U-turn anywhere, clog up bus stops... It's endless. They are KILLING bus service in this City and creating a congestion nightmare. The crackdown was long overdue, given that the TLC has done nothing to curb this explosion. Hundreds of thousands of these vehicles flooding our streets in the last few years, and only now do they have a temporary cap in place.

We don't have the infrastructure available to have everyone and their mother using these services. Too much pollution, congestion, etc.
