The Train cars on the L train (R143) are dirty, loud and breaking down more often than they should. There’s smudged graffiti on many of the cars and despite being introduced in 2003 (relatively new), my friends in transit say the cars still running that were originally built in the 70s/80s are better.

I remember when they had wicker seats and those fans with the blades that could hit your head if you were tall .

The fan blades and the strap ( strap hanger ) were made of porcelain.

You can still see those fans on train cars at the NYC Transit Museum in Brooklyn (my favorite museum around).
