Let's talk about it again...this is the most reasonable summer I have had so far in nyc temperature wise, despite the very recent short-lived "heatwave". All other summers were hotter for longer periods as far as I can remember.
I was looking on my weather app for weather info on Peiking/shanghai and many other towns in the polluted and deserted nation, daily temp has been stuck in the range of 27-39 C (80-100 F) for over a week and will continue so for the next two weeks. that makes me appreciate being in nyc.
This past week was certainly more reasonable than Amsterdam/Paris/Brussels, etc.

A friend said that London was boiling at 100+ the other day, and that backward city has low A/C rate...too bad, but I am not complaining that they steal the hot summer from NY...
In the recent years I'm noticing 83F can feel like 90F. Too much heat-retaining concrete from overdevelopment and disappearing vegetation. The heat emanates from the side-to-side and bottom up when I'm outside. The rays of the sun feels much hotter too and burns my skin easily. My friend who is 70 years old said as a child he would play outside all day and the sun didn't feel as hot as it does today. People didn't need ACs in the 1950s. They just opened their windows.

Well, that city for most of its existence as a major city never had the need for ubiquitous A/C, so it makes sense that they didn’t build for that and put the resources into such. They’ve got a new normal now, so they’re going to have to expend a lot of resources to shift gears now as it’s been several consecutive years of this.

There’s also the humidity level. When it’s more humid, the same high temperature at a higher humidity level ends up feeling a lot more uncomfortable and generally hotter especially as your sweat has a more difficult time evaporating off and cooling you.

Agreed....Outside of little to much rain, summer temperature for 2019 spared us from being called the baked apple again.
This July is going to end as the 3rd hottest July on record. We've been doing that with record high dew points.
The last 10 days of June were well above average, and August looks to start with a bunch of 90s as well.
Maybe you've got better AC, or something else has changed for you, but the facts speak for themselves.
