What do you mean by "seminar." I go to some of the evening talks, but I don't think that's what you mean.

There are evening talks where authors are showcasing their books but then there were these seminars where the topic was more in depth and it was more like a classroom type of setting. You had to sign up and register online to reserve a spot for those & they passed out materials. There was also a q & a afterwards. I went to the trust fund/inheritance tax seminar, the real estate investment and the stocks/bonds/equities investment seminars & the long term health insurance/elder law seminar but that was a good 8 or 9 years ago. Don't know if they still offer those.

They were pretty good and well attended (you had to register really early on in order to reserve a spot). The only thing was they often ran out of time; there was so much material to cover but they did give these handouts that you could take home with you.

I have an NYPL card and I use it to borrow DVD/Blu-ray movies. My only complaint is that the NYPL has consolidated the branches which have DVD/Blu-rays. I understand why they did it but I miss being able to just walk into the branch and browse the video shelves. Now I have to reserve a video online and pick it up my local branch.

Yes! I use it for printing large volumes of paper and when I am taking a vacation/long flights. Books make the time go bye quickly. There is nothing like laying in a hammock while listening to the ocean breeze/or enjoying serene quietness and reading a book.

I have one library card that is good for both the NYPL and the Brooklyn public library. I rarely go to the library itself anymore. Instead, I use an app called Libby to browse both libraries and check out books I read on my iPad. It is so convenient to be able to browse and check out books while I am in bed late at night. And Libby offers a variety of font styles and font sizes and backgrounds.

To me, having a valid library card for two of the best libraries and being able to check out books whenever I want and wherever I happen to be is one of the real treasures of living in New York City.

What's the NYPL Christmas party? Is it public or for employees?
