Rumors have been floating around for a while up here in Hamilton Heights, and it has now been confirmed that the old parking garage near 145th and Saint Nicholas Ave will be torn down and combined with the large empty lot next to it to build three massive 30 story luxury buildings with street level retail space (rumored to be anchored by a Trader Joes) along with a large fountain and green space.
Renderings were placed in front of the site last night and construction equipment has begun to arrive.
Unless or until you can come up with some links or something to prove the topic of thread, it is just a bunch of hot air.
You obvi don’t live in the area. I go to the neighborhood meetings and live here.
The Alberts donated that money to the school indeed, praise be! But the school has been begging the community board for years to allow them to sell their air rights and it was recently approved and then sold to above mentioned developers.
How the school allocates their windfalls is up to them. I know part of it is to offer kids free tuition. That’s great!
Wow I pass that building during my bike rides up north sometimes. I thought that was actually a car mechanic garage because of how old it looks. If they put a Trader Joe's there that would be insanely awesome.
You guys see the construction on 135th Saint Nicolas Ave? New condo being built that should be done next summer. I wonder what retail will be on the ground level.
OP, are you talking about that parking garage on St Nicholas? If so, then it is not nearly large enough for three towers. No way can you build three 30 story towers on such a small plot under very conservative NYC zoning.
I myself would love to see density like that as I am pro-growth and that there are multiple subway lines just a few steps away but alas this is very NIMBY NYC so I don't think it is realistic. Something will get built but not three, 30 story buildings. Maybe just one?

He said the garage PLUS the empty lot next to it. More than enough room for 3 buildings.
