How many outages of this scale happen in NYC each year? Excluding storms.
According to Wikipedia, on this scale or larger 2 since 1977 both due to storms. Hence my reasoning that you need to take 1 out of 365 x1000 at least. There could have been more, who knows...I just took 2 seconds to do a search to check. Really, I'm just saying i'd be really surprised it was a coincidence. I suck at math and don't know much about stats, it is just suspect it happened on the same day.
MTA communication of what was running and where was extremely poor... I was on the UES visiting my sister - was waiting for the Q home in the 86th St. station when the power went out on the west side and Delay started appearing on the status board - communication in that station was great and swift that we weren't going anywhere for awhile so I went back to my sister's for a little while. There I saw it was on the west side so I was figuring the Lexington Avenue lines would be OK, but did not want to walk all the way there (my sister lives by the East River) without confirmation. MTA website/app had the same stand by message for all lines (except the G and J) for over two hours before they finally updated for some lines - by which time a pal who works for the MTA had already told me the Lex was running and I was already on my way to the station.
Given the outage lasted less than 6 hours and appeared to be under control I'd say it wasn't necessary to have him present. He's not an electrical nor engineer.

Too many transplant crybabies. Growing up in Far Rock in the 1980s we had them once a year! Every summer! One time me and my mother was in Dans Supreme supermarket! Have any of you ever been in a supermarket in the hood during a blackout? LoL
We just had one on my neighborhood a few years ago due to a blew transformer. It was for a few hours. My heart only goes out to those who were stuck in elevators, thats the worst
FDNY are goons. I'm just shouting out FDNY because thats typically who responds to stuck elevators.

Stuck in the elevator with a smelly delivery biker would be my fear. Especially if I was forced to commandeer that food only to find some healthy vegan meal.
