Hi New Yorkers. My daughter got an internship working on Lenox and is commuting from Long Island by railroad into Penn Station. She thinks taking the 2 train straight to 125th street station is the fastest way. Is it? About how long is the commute from Penn? Any other tips etc would be appreciated. I told her to post herself on here but she says - I got this. LOL. I'm not too sure. Thanks.

Ye, that should be it—the 2 and 3 train run the same express train stops from Penn Station to the 125th street stop, so she won’t need to wait for the 2 while a 3 passes by.

SeventhFloor is right, though, there’s no real unique insider knowledge on this question and google maps has this pretty handily.

Yes the 2/3 goes express from 42 to 72 then 96 but after that it has a few local stops. Can also take the A train from penn station after 59st it goes straight to 125st but then she would have to walk to lennox.

So theres two options at least.

On paper the A is only about 3 mins faster than the 2/3. The walk from St Nick to Lenox would kill any time saved.

If she works right on Lenox then the 2 is a no brainer. Even if the A train was faster she wouldn't have to walk 3 avenues eastward.

From my experience, MTA app, Citymapper, Moovit app are all extremely accurate and are constantly updated in real time. She should get used to always checking the app times on arrival time (this saves a lot of total time trip) and any delays.

Thanks so much. Gave you all rep. Its good to have an alternate train just incase something happens to the 2 and to know the 3 is the same line. I was used to hopstop - thought it was great until google bought and then busted it (not a google fan btw) but if she doesn't already know about those other apps - I'll have her (and I will) download and check them out. Thanks again.
