So I have an appointment to provide all the docs for a new apartment in Brooklyn. My credit is trash but my husbands credit is good. Do both adults need good credit to be approved or will my bad credit cause us to be denied? Anyone know?

they dont check credit and even if you have bad credit
they can't deny you.

they only check for criminal activities and any evicted or court stuff

Speaking from experience it’s not about the credit score it’s more about how much you have in collections if it’s over 5,000 they will denied you but you have a right to appeal their decision. That happened to me the management company told me appeal and I had to send over 12 months worth of rent receipts show that I paid my rent on time and in full. I won the appeal and I’m currently living the apartment.

They can't deny you based on credit score alone anymore.

They can deny you for having a high debt to income ratio.

Congrats on your apt. They do check credit, you may not be rejected solely on that but it could be a factor.

Checking DTI is forbidden for renters. Check p. 64 of the most recent handbook.

Which is 50% of your credit calculation. Even if they don't look at your credit score, this metric alone is enough.

What? Your credit score doesn't include DTI. It does include the percentage of all available credit you're using, but that's far from the same thing.

And, again, looking at DTI isn't permitted for rentals. When someone gives you an actual page number, is it that hard to check if you don't believe them?
