It sucks, the planet is becoming unlivable - if you don't have AC your life is miserable. And the more people use AC the hotter the outside air gets
Those government buildings, corp offices and majority other buildings keep their indoor temp 72 degrees 24/7, not only wasting a lot of $$$ but generating a huge burden on the environment...
mind you, most of the occupants are anti-global warmers who march and parade to "protect" the environment...
At this point I've done below zero in NYC with wind chill and over 100° with heat index
At this point, if you lived here for a certain time, you will realize that NYC gets every major weather condition, every natural disaster except volcanoes
I can't complain when I know there were people who rode the NYC Subway back in the 1950s with no AC.
There were subway cars without AC as late as the late 1970s/early 1980s, maybe later. They had fans on the ceiling. I remember them on the J line, although that is mostly above ground.
I rock shorts to work starting late May to late Sept. Bring on those 100 heat days!!
You just need to dress appropriately. I also recommend taking cold showers. (read up on William Hof)
I love my new commute (NYC to Fort Lee). 3 min walk to GWB station, get on the 5;50 bus, 3 min ride and get off 1st stop, walk to the gym 12 mins, work out for 1;15min, walk to the office 10 mins. Carpool back home at 4 pm.

I've seen people in Thailand and Vietnam walk around with long sleeves on in 90+ temps and 70% humidity. They're used it but we're not. I couldn't stand the weather there in the summer. It's gonna be like monsoon weather and it's all about the humidity.
Thank god for the overcast, rain and drizzle today keeping the temperatures in the 70's, tolerable even WITH a 79% humidity.
This is remnants of Tropical Storm, and briefly Hurricane Barry that slammed Louisiana so bad last week.
A little unexpected respite from the heat wave that is slaughtering much of the rest of the country.
I just turned off my AC mostly because I just finished a large, ice, ICE cold protein shake (breakfast and lunch) that gave me the chills.

Don't make such generalizations. I'm on the trading floor and currently covered with two scarves because I am freezing (if I go stand outside for five minutes, it's to get some relief). The only ones happy with this ice box is the men
