This heat wave reminds me of going to the top of our 5 story walk up apartment with a cooler, lawn chair and radio

We called it Tar Beach

Anyone still doing that?

But wasn't it even hotter up on those old tar roofs? My mother remembered sleeping out on the fire escape during the terrible 1936 heat wave. My grandmother never liked doing that but in extreme heat it was better than being inside a hot tenement.

Yes, that was the reason to be on the roof with your sun reflectors to tan up

Cold beer in a cooler, tossing a few firecrackers on and off the roof.

Going back into the apartment, leaving the front door open to get the cool air in the apartment.

Box fans in the window.

Waiting for Bungalow Bar Ice Cream truck to show up around 7-8pm

I gave up doing that when I realized that basking in the sun isn't a great idea.

A beach chair under a big hole tree does it for me.

So does a window fan blowing out the window for a cool breeze.

OMG. WHat a horrible thought sitting in the Sun has become. Maybe fine in April, but not in July.

Message to anyone under 30. Stay out of the Sun. If you live a long life, as I seem to be doing, you will regret the ravages to your skin.
