What is your favorite Greek restaurant?

It seems like Diners, and Gyro places stand out more than traditional greek food even though there are many Greeks here, and they are prominent in the foodservice industry.

What about Polish? Are there still any left in Greenpoint? I go to Ridgewood a lot, and there used to be a place called Kredens, and was very good. Now only Krowlewski Jadlo is left, but changed name to Oksara, or Oksana, I forget.

Astoria has several good ones. Taverna Cyclades is pretty good in Astoria with another in Manhattan. Not the best up there, but my favorite is too small to take much more of a crowd. Thereís also newer Greek restaurants like Kikiís.

Greenpoint still has several Polish places and easy to look up. If you like that cuisine though, consider also restaurants that served somewhat similar cuisines like Cafe Katja which is Austrian.

I had no idea Austrian and Polish were similar, aside from the sausages. I learn something new every day!

I'm going to Berlin in September so hopefully I can experience it all.

There are two in Astoria I like, but there may be others with a larger reputation.

The two I've been to and liked are E-Taverna https://www.yelp.com/biz/e-taverna-to-koutouki-astoria

and Akrotiri https://www.yelp.com/biz/akrotiri-se...a?osq=akritori

Greek---there are quite a few around so I wouldn't be able to choose.

Polish---I've been to Polonica a few times but that's in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.

I don't eat Greek food often enough to have a favorite, but I like Periyali, although I think it's been displaced on its lofty perch.

Polish: How has nobody mentioned the best place in greenpoint yet? Karczma. Been there like eight times, it's great. I go all the way from Harlem.

Greek: Honestly I just pick any cheap place in Astoria. I love gyros but I don't really want more upscale Greek food (which is usually seafood, which I dislike) and gyros are kind of interchangable once you get above halal truck territory

Something I have noticed at some greek menus, and Greek run diner menus.

Their fish dishes never have any description. It just the fish itself. The fishes dont come with any sauce, or individual prep or individual style of plating. Its just the fish cooked, and served with a lemon on the side.
