Very true. I used to know a lot of drifters in the Village. They were almost all homeless as a lifestyle choice. Winter in Daytona/Summer in Washington Sq. Didn't stop them from panhandling and acting "homeless."
He's homeless by choice so he can save money earned in the States to build up Mexico. This is everything wrong with our Immigration "policies". Using American resources to enrich another nation.
I had a polish contractor working on my house and he was living like a three-legged mangy dog in a rat-hole apartment. One day he showed me a few photos of the CASTLE he was building in Poland. It was spectacular.

Again as have said if you know how to go about it living rough on NYC streets isn't bad as some may want to believe. Remember that "spitting woman of the UES"? When she was busted had > $20k cash.
Have seen the same homeless or whatever going through garbage bags on UES for years. In fact more of them have arrived thanks to the SAS. These people aren't so busted they don't have phones, are relatively clean and appear healthy.

Even in Coney Island there's a whole tribe of hippies living under the el tracks. I'm talking about white people with dreadlocks, guitars, and pit bulls. Back in the day it was a different type. Vietnam vets, hippies, people who simply turned on and dropped out and drifted. They were just done with the lifestyle of being rats on a hamster wheel trying to get to the cheese. It's a lifestyle choice for many people.
Been visiting Five Islands Park in New Rochelle a lot recently. One homeless guy has has turned a gazebo with a few of the picnic benches that are facing the water into a nice little sanctuary for himself. Great way to stay cool. Now, as for what this guy does to stay warm in the winter, I don't know.

During winter many of these crusties, transplants and other professional homeless pack up and head for warmer climates. They go on down to Florida, out to west coast or whatever and continue their game there until time to head back to NYC.
This and or those who cannot leave (as in have a job or really good gig) will try to come up with some sort of indoor accommodation such as renting a room.
