Ok, so the building in Queens wont be built. Lots of construction job, construction suppliers opportunities lost, a neighborhood and park lost.

But looks like Jeff B may have his laugh if this goes thru

Try and stop that AOC and DeB (a/k/a Warren Wilhelm Jr.)

Are you aware the DeB was the primary backer of the Amazon deal ? Sounds like you are not really knowledgeable of what actually happened.

I don't think anyone cares how much space or where Amazon rents on their own dime. It was taxpayers subsidizing their operations that was the problem.

People everywhere should just say no the type of corporate welfare/bribery schemes of sports franchises, corporations and international committees like the olympics.

What amazon is doing here is actually giving up their game. They want desperately to house certain operations in NYC and can well afford to do anything on their own but decided hey, let's see if we can bully NYC and NY State into paying for a big chunk of this.
When they didn't get what the wanted they decided go ahead anyway and just pay their own way....... proving that it was all just a stick up to begin with.

This is factually inaccurate. Amazon was going to bring in a ton of high paying jobs that would have increased the net taxes collected immediately and forever. This would have been one of the best new providers of middle class and upper middle class jobs in a decade. Democrats and Republicans mostly agreed on the issue too, which is almost unheard of. Unfortunately the radical left wing of NYC politicians were able to scare off Amazon and everyone lost out. To reiterate, we were not talking about the minimum wage part time jobs that a Stadium brings. I would be more inclined to agree with you there.

Apparently those jobs are coming in anyways without the large tax incentives.

And those jobs weren't immediate and forever. That wasn't in the projected original plan. It was a ramp up with a timeline that Amazon needed to meet in order to receive its incentives. It's been ramping up hiring since before the bid and has continued to do so after the bid failed as have all of its competitors, and surprise!, they're still hiring without the incentives. Those taxes are now still coming without as much of a community pushback and without the state having to forego those proceeds. You got saved a massive and needless tax give-away and yet you're griping about who knows what.

You should both realize that a good number of people were against the deal not because they did not want the jobs or that they think Amazon is the devil incarnate, but because the state had extended an incentives package that was obviously unnecessary. For those people, such as myself, this pretty much is as expected since virtually every single tech major has announced about the same massive expansions in recent years. Unlike you perhaps, I actually prefer politicians to act in the public interest in terms of not offering overly generous packages giving away potential state revenue when there is no reason to do so. That's been Cuomo's strategy for a while and it has generally had pretty mediocre to awful outcomes, so I'm inclined to think of that as **** poor strategy and those who support it as having the memory of a goldfish or maybe the analytical ability of one.

Offering those incentives, especially greater than as-of-right incentives, was a needlessly stupid move (and one that Big Bird approved of and pushed for) and it's bad that those were offered in the first place. Given such idiocy, it's good that they were able to cancel it quickly without a much more protracted fight as Amazon needs to start hiring and it's not much good to be constantly see-sawing.

Really, what would teach the local NYC communist politicritters a lesson would be if Amazon got a boffo deal from NJ and Jersey City. Moved 10,000 jobs there, and sucked those workers out of NYC.

NJ tried with a ridiculously cushy incentives offer that was leaked. All it pointed to, along with the continued expansions of Amazon in NYC such as shown here, was how the incentives package that NYC offered was stupid and essentially a non-factor.

You and the country fell for Amazon's fake national HQ2 campaign. All along they were gunning for NYC but they wanted other cities to compete for incentives in order to put pressure on NYC to give them tax incentives. Originally Amazon had already eyed several locations in NYC to expand their already maxed out offices. AOC did the city good and nixed the tax incentive package that would've set back NYC by atleast 10 years worth of uncollected taxes if it went through.

Amazon has already agreed on moving near Hudson Yards without a tax incentive package.

Gotta love how all the people got played by Jeff Bezos.

Yea, I don’t get how people can at this point still see this as a loss. There’s some chance that maybe in an alternate universe that the Amazon jobs never materialized due to the pushback on the bid, but this has so very obviously not been the case and for good reason.

The Amazon jobs came and keep coming without those incentives so NYS is getting that additional tax revenue without part of it being cut down for a special deal yet this is somehow being morphed into a bad thing? And now somehow Big Bird is getting credit for that when the guy probably can’t see past the end of his beak? Is this a special advocacy group? Like Bozos for Bezos or something?
