Is it possible that there are just more bicycle deaths because there are more riders?
Is anyone investigating what percentage are on Citibank bicycles?
On the NYC government website, they offer a variety of statistics, but firmly avoid mentioning deaths.
Bike freaks are the worst. I know the Staten Island death was because the cyclist ran a red light. Cyclists think everyone is supposed to give them priority while breaking every law on the books.
I have never rode a bike in Manhattan. Thats something I am not interested in doing, riding your bike down Mott Avenue in Far Rock on a hot Saturday afternoon is bad enough (as a kid)

Cyclists think the world revolves around them. They usually realize that it doesn't right after it's too late. I used to ride my bicycle everywhere before it got big and it wasn't an issue. More cyclists on the road made my commute more dangerous.
As someone who's never even owned a car and walks/subway everywhere: many cyclists are very entitled. People worry about what cars do but cyclists cuss and scream at anyone in their way and simply don't believe any traffic law applies to them.

Riding your bike down Ninth Avenue is like heading down an obstacle course. Seventh Avenue is plain nuts. Park Avenue.... I've done it once, would not recommend.
Some bicyclists are entitled. Joggers more so, though; had a jogger jog into my bike. While I was stopped. And naturally he cursed me out.
I've only biked on the bike path on the WS pretty much.
People on bikes are insane in the city---they are worse than drivers. When I am walking around work, the cars barely go more than 5 MPH and mostly obey the rules since they can't get anywhere anyway. Now add to the list the electric bikes and scooters that also do whatever they want. And the number of people who avoid using the bike lanes even when on streets that have them or that might have them one street over is mind boggling.
There’s more damn bikes than ever before due to citi bike, messengers, ubeareats, grubhub, seamless, postmates, caviar, and everybody and their grandma and grandpa on a damn bike. Most of em don’t watch where tf they’re goin, so it equals more deaths
As others said, most don't follow traffic laws, and I've seen plenty riding while texting on their phones or on a call, while listening to music with headphones in and against traffic.
Add to this Amazon is adding bikers for deliveries, and it's going to get worse.
The city was not designed to have bikes. There is no specific bike lane in which cars can't drive in or park at. Bikers are pretty bold to bike in traffic, against traffic or with traffic.
I can understand the appeal of biking in Central Park, Riverside park, the greenways of the West Side Highway or FDR.
