This is not going to fix the underlying problem. White people aren't going to send their kids to public school in Brownsville and East New York, and the classroom makeups will likely continue to be roughly the same. Except now, nobody will have access to any sort of gifted program.
Everyone is aware that white people arent going to send their kids to Brownsville.
Can someone explain: why are hispanics a victim group, a la black people? Why do people worry about there not being enough hispanics in this place or that place, but we don't hear this about, say, Vietnamese or Thai or Russians?
The complaint is that the schools are 70% black and Hispanic. Somehow they want to integrate the schools when only 15% of the children in the schools are white and only 15% are Asian.
Not happening with that kind of math.
They want to eliminate the gifted and talented programs because most of the children in them are white and Asian.
Middle class black and Hispanic parents want more talented and gifted programs in more of the schools across the board, and especially in the schools that are majority black and Hispanic.
What I find worst about this thread is the fact that OP just linked to the NYT and didn't copy and paste the article. They're the worst offender when it comes to restricting your access to content. You read a few articles and you're locked out until next month...
G&T is the only way to get your kid into a public school where all the parents are competent and as a result have a classroom ready to learn. It takes just one disruptive kid to completely ruin the year for all the other kids.
This is a war on the middle class, pure and simple. Rich families will continue to put their kids in private schools, and the middle class will be left with nothing and pick up and leave.
But I guess that will make you happy? Can't have any kids succeeding in a public system without getting dragged down right by kids from families with lower standards, right? Gotta spread the misery around after all

It’s against the ToS to copy and paste an article.
