Its a bad situation, but yea 3:45am, you can expect that.

I remember not too long ago there was that guy that was beaten and shot in broad daylight on the train platform, I believe in Queens...he died.

Only one way to ensure safety of all.

That is to allow all to be responsible for their own protection.

We must let everyone open carry as much ordnance as they can.

That's because we have the largest police force in the country that mainly works during the day. Of course crime doesn't happen as much during the day! It better not be, if the cops are doing their job.

Now, you go out at night and you get beat up or robbed because criminals mainly come out at night because they know cops aren't around at night.

The bottomline, NYC isn't safe. Criminals are opportunists and they will be out when the cops don't do their job.

I can go to Hong Kong or Tokyo anytime anywhere and never have any fear of robbery or being assaulted and that's SAFE. NYC will never be as safe as those cities.
As a LA native who has visited NYC, Tokyo and Hong Kong multiple times, I can say NYC is not as safe as Tokyo/HK on an overall level, but NYC is still one of the safest cities in the US. MTA seriously has a lot of work to do in coming up with security measures.

But then you see, the crime happened at 1:45am, for me, personally I wouldn’t hang out anywhere in Manhattan at that time(Be it Midtown, Lower Manhattan, Uptown, Chelsea or East Village)

The guy was coming home at 145am to clarify.

While its not going back to the 80's early 90's, people making light of it basically saying who cares is sad... you lack empathy. Saying you can expect something like that means how out of touch you are. No you should not be expected to be stabbed ever at anytime! My work hours are all over the place, and I often am coming home late or leaving at 4am to go to work. Having a poor man stabbed is never ok.
