After negotiations for over two years, the MTA’s $27 billion Capital Program has been approved of which $695 million has been apportioned for four new Metro North stations in The East Bronx.
Once complete, the new stations at Hunts Point, Parkchester, Morris Park, and Co-op City will serve as part of the New Haven Connecticut line and whisk away passengers towards Penn Station.
For many residents, this has been a long-awaited dream about to become a reality in transit-starved East Bronx communities. Not only will it serve those commuting into Manhattan but also those who reverse commute to points north for work.
The Bronx has the highest rate of reverse commuting population in the United States.
No exact date has been set as to when the stations will open but it’s expected to come as early as 2022—but we’ll believe it when we see it.
Parkchester already has decent transportation with the No. 6 train stopping there. Morris Park too. It's great for Coop City. Too bad Throgs Neck didn't get a station.

But not like this.Take Morris Park for instance. Much of the area requires taking a bus to the subway and then a 45 min subway ride.Easy hour to hour and a half all together. Even the areas in walking distance to a 5 station you still have the subway ride. Now it will be a 25 min metro north ride and a West side option( as opposed to the 5) Very big difference.And the new station is going to be in the eastern part of Morris Park which is the most transportation challenged part of the area.
Re Parkchester, those folks will now have a way to get to midtown West side fast with no changes. Also, people often say " if you buy in Parkchester buy in the South section" because can be a 15 or 20 min walk from the North section to the 6, which is at the southernmost point of the complex. The metro north stop will be at the Northern edge of the complex so great for them.
Still unclear to me if these trains will stop in Queens on the way through. That would be fantastic for people commuting between the East Bronx and parts of Queens and even Brooklyn. It would also be great for getting from The East Bronx to the airports,especially LGA. The trains are going to have to go through Hunter's Point so why not stop there to connect with the G ,the 7 and LIRR ? It would open up a world of transportation options for a lot of people.
These trains will also pass right by the Astoria Blvd N stop.
Might as well throw a stop in Queens so they can connect to LGA. Would also be nice to take a train between Queens and the Bronx without having to go through Manhattan.
