One of my AP course high school teachers is a distant relative of Boss Tweed, so he loved researching and teaching about him. Interestingly, per the wikipedia article, he only served for one term in the US House. This seems not be out of the ordinary of US congresspersons of the time (to include US Senators). I guess having to travel long, slow distances to and from Washington wasn't very appealing to many and took a toll.

That's an interesting point. It took a toll till they finally figured out out you could make more money being a congress critter in DC than back home.
