Not really funny as this is a serious matter to me

$1,500 is not soooo bad. Try uptown. Inwood has one bedrooms for about that. You can take the A train downtown and get to midtown in 20 mins or so.

Or try outside Manhattan.

Correct, if you're willing to go slightly above $1500 and up to about $1700 Inwood is your place:

You can get a one-bedroom in Jersey City for $1,500 and take the Path train in to Lower Manhattan.

If you go to jersey you mind as well be in inwood with the extra $100 or so for transportation. It is better to just share a space and get a roommate if you want to be below 125th st.

If you're open to roommates.. I was in a shared house last year in a 3 bed/2 bath apt. in jersey city, 4 blocks from grove street path (took me 15 min to WTC) and my rent was $725 believe it or not. It was an older apt though, but for the price and location- I didn't mind. I moved out though because one of the roommate was pretty much a roommate from hell lol.

Agree with the other comments about a roommate. If you need to stay in Manhattan, you can find a nice apartment in a good location for that budget with a roommate.

Roommates help you save on the cost of utilities too, since you split.

jersey/path train is the way to go, or else you need a second job to rent something in Brooklyn or Staten Island
