Part of Cuomo's effort to deal with quality of life issues on NYC transit.

This was mentioned in another thread, but didn't see one specifically on topic, so began one in order to make a point. These are MTA officers, not NYCT police. Bill de Boob and Corey Johnson would rather die than expand NYPD ranks of any sort (Housing, Transit, etc....), so MTA (a state agency) is stepping up their game.

When NYCT first began their "crack down" on quality of life issues it was like always; they pulled NYCT and even NYPD officers off other duties to send down into subways and so forth. Well the force is only about 38k or so officers, so that cannot go on forever.

Certain stations are known hotbeds of crime, fare evasion, but you don't see NYPD/NYCT cops anywhere. Others of the more well known and consistently bad (Times Square or Grand Central) OTOH usually always have officers.

Growing up in 1970's though 1980's officers at subway stations and or pounding the beat (patrolling trains) was a regular sight. Now you don't really see that unless or until something prompts a show of force.
