If you arrived at JFK airport now at 2:30 on a Saturday afternoon, and needed to get to a location right around Empire State bldg. 33rd/Fifth ASAP - and had to choose between an Uber and the subway system, which would you choose? Why?

Uber, because ASAP and MTA don’t belong in the same sentence.

If you need to get somewhere “eventually”, for a cheap price, MTA will go your way.

If it was 2:30 AM I'd take Uber everytime.

For 2:30 pm I'd take take MTA. Air train plus subway. It's usually faster. Traffic not worth it. But just check the MTA app and the destination time, it's accurate.

Also wouldn’t hurt if you’re planning to take MTA on a Saturday to check MTA weekender. Scheduled weekend track work can make trips longer than anticipated, like when the E starts going local in Queens instead of express.

Depends , google says it will take u 40 min driving from jfk to Empire State Building while mta which will be about 1 hour if you take Airtrain to LiRR. The public transit route would be much cheaper but if you want peace of mind without transferring train to train etc then Uber it is ( price would be 50 something )

Also take in consideration if you have been to JFK before and know the transit system. I've seen tourist spend 10-15 min getting themselves lost trying to figure out how to get from point A to point B. It can be overwhelming if you are in a rush and are not familiar with the system.

I live on the UES, if I have to get to/from JFK, I usually take the subway-Airtrain combo. It's eons cheaper. I've even done this at nighr, when the E Train is running local (major PITA.) During the day/evening this is a no brainer if traffic is a possibility.

Honestly, I would Google Maps it the moment I landed. I think that MTA should be faster, but weekend service can be a disaster. It could go either way.

Of course, I'd only recommend that if you're familiar with the subway system. If not, just pay the money for the Uber because it'll save you the hassle of trying to navigate unfamiliar territory.

Just check ahead of time if there's work scheduled on the E.
