Where are the best ethnic/international markets in NYC ?

I tried the Tashkent market (ethnically Uzbek) in Brooklyn - great stuff.

And in these markets what have you discovered/ tried and would like to /love to recommend ?

Kalustyan's is a wonderful old-school Indian market that carries a lot of neat ingredients for cooking and a lot of stuff you wouldn't expect. For instance, they stock an awesome array of various hot sauces and even grapefruit bitters and many other flavors!

They have teas, coffee, sweets, spices, etc., and the prices are reasonable.

My daughter bought herself an Instant Pot, and she's been going to Kalustyan's every couple of weeks to stock up on authentic ingredients for Indian and Thai cuisines.

It's located on Lexington Avenue in Curry Hill (between 28th and 29th Streets).

Go to any chinese giant supermarket in the Chinese areas, or the H Marts.

I hear good things about Eataly.

Tashkent supermarket is one of the best ones that exist. Everything is delicious, fresh and open 24 hours.

I always stop by when Im in the neighborhood.

People shopping for Indian groceries tend to like Patel Brothers in Jackson Heights, but my understanding is it's now a chain so you may be able to find the same stuff in NJ.

J Mart on the corner of Roosevelt and Main in Flushing, right when you come up from the 7 train last stop (or near the LIRR Main St) stop. Don't miss the fish counter even if you don't buy anything. And definitely check the produce - it's worth the trip for that alone.
