I assume some people get their news on the forum. Well there was a incident at Stapleton, Staten Island where a suspect and police shooting involved. Glad the cop is ok.

Nothing new there; NS from basically Tompkinsville looping around past ferry then onto Saint George, New Brighton, West New Brighton, Port Richmond, Mariners Harbor and Arlington are basically now or fast becoming hoods.

Yes, you have some isolated wonderful areas, but each year the maddness keeps radiating out further and further from core hood areas.

West Brighton once had things contained to area from North Burgher to about Alaska or Taylor from mostly below Castleton to Richmond Terrace. A bulk of it was Broadway (West Brighton Houses) and North Burgher (Markam Houses), but that too is changing.

Elm street and Bement avenue (latter below Henderson for most part) are and have been hoods for years now. Oakland ave, Pelton ave and even Bard and Davis avenues are slowly being infiltrated by hood elements.

Debbie Rose and others keep playing up Saint George and Tompkinsville as next "Williamsburg" or something, this includes recently passed Bay Street rezoning. But as that shooting makes clear the entrenched element isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

They've been trying to "gentrify" Tompkinsville ever since Bay Street Landing arrived, and it just hasn't truly happened. Opening of Urby hasn't moved the needle that much either.

People who know SI and or at least the area just aren't willing to make that move unless they see a huge (and permanent) change.

Sadly the madness is moving south towards Rosebank as well.

Cops and criminals engaging each other is normal.
