"It's going to tighten the market"

Hahahah, as if it could begin to compare in effect with the SALT restrictions put in by your master.

Long story short in grand scheme of things SCRIE isn't that huge a deal in terms of throwing money at housing. LL's get a credit on their property taxes and while yes things ultimately fall back onto taxpayers, in most ways things just even out.

Of more concern is the "free" money BdeB and his housing agency is throwing out no questions asked to nearly anyone with a pulse. One shot deals (often more than once), various vouchers, etc.... That is money coming right out of city's coffers.

"Under Mayor Bill de Blasio’s administration, significantly more money has been paid out as the program has been marketed more aggressively and caseworkers have been told to stress averting homelessness when they weigh applications. In Brooklyn, $62.6 million was spent on one-shots in fiscal 2017, up from $35.2 million three years earlier, the individual amounts averaging $3,800."

"The city’s expectation is that no one should get multiple one-shots in a year. Yet some people collect two or three."

"The rest, who are a minority, get repayment schedules that can stretch for years. According to the social services agency, about 80 percent of people are behind on repaying the loans."

You all have GOT to stop with degrading people with welfare programs

idgaf if they’re old, young, got one leg and one knee, black, white or purple

You never know when YOU yourself might need the assistance of one of these programs. Could be for you or a family member or a friend. There is absolutely nothing wrong with welfare

No one has a problem with helping someone out who has fallen; but when that becomes a way of life (either prior and or continues), then a line has to be drawn somewhere. At some point people need to be responsible for their own actions.

You cannot paint everyone who has long term assistance under the same brush without knowing what their individual situation is, which quite frankly is none of anyone’s business

That's just a completely illogical statement - as soon as someone gets public assistance their situation BECOMES everyone's business. I have absolutely no problem with welfare as a safety net to help someone get on their feet, for a year or two, but then sorry you should be on your own. Some people obviously cannot take care of themselves, such as the mentally ill or severely physically disabled, makes sense that they end up being a public charge if family cannot support them. But for able-bodied adults, welfare as dependence is just criminal and should be abolished just like a lot of what Bill Clinton did with his welfare reform several years ago

Now see there you're wrong. It becomes "anyone's business" when whatever situation causes people to seek out taxpayer funded benefits. Same as when your kids or a family member comes to you for a touch; normally their personal business is just that, but when asking someone else for money then all bets are off.

Again no one said they had any problems with the odd and temporary one off situation. But when it has been a way of life, and or there just doesn't seem to be a steady plan to dig themselves out of that hole, that is when you've got to keep your wallet closed and say "no".

Again we all know or have known people whose lives go from one hot mess to another. They're always on the scrounge and or otherwise seemingly incapable of supporting themselves, and or their families. The daughter, niece or whoever everyone warned *NOT* to become a single mother/get involved with some worthless bum. Guy who lives way above his head but won't take warnings that things need to change otherwise disaster is bound to happen.

These people always have some story or dream that light is at the end of tunnel, and that may very well be but sometimes that light is an oncoming train.

Don't bother, certain posters have absolutely nothing better to discuss...

That's not a problem with the program per se, but with the ADMINISTRATION of the program. There are scammers at the bottom, but there are skimmers at the top, and we all, between certain ages, take our turn being the working stiffs in the middle. And that is the real problem, which needs a real solution.
