Somewhat difficult here.

The article states that the intruder was prowling the area so he didn't break into the property. The homeowner confronted the guy and chased him down and then swung a metal object to his head knocking him out and killing him in the process.

I hope the homeowner has a camera on his property to prove that the intruder was in the process of breaking in.

I'm not sure the Castle Doctrine stretches down the street to an alley. But one less miscreant on the street.

I'm all for defending yourself and property. But there is more to this story I feel.

We are getting one side of the story. Need more info.

Bad move on the vigilante part.
Go for below the waist, so the alleged perp cant walk. Not murder or manslaughter.

Im around that area all the time due to the bakery on 226th and White Plains road. Most of those side streets are pretty much homes with front and back yards with a large West Indian presence in which we do usually take matters into our own hands but......the home owner messed up.

There have to be more to this story such as the deceased previously broke in, or vandalized his property, or something. It makes no sense to chase someone down the street into an alley and beat them to death intentional or accidental.

This is the world we live in, people put their emotions first then ride that emotional wave right into doing stupid things. You would think after chasing the person off, to call the cops and let them deal with it but hey lets just throw logic out the window.

Now comes the part where the deceased family comes out and say oh he was such a good person and didn't hurt no body. Sues the homeowner, and everyone can keep it moving.

Definitely not upset that the perp died, but this isn’t how you handle self-defense legally.
