After randomly running into this online showing parts of my old neighborhood by Fordham when I first came to this country and my current neighborhood by Yankee Stadium it got me thinking should I go revisit my old neighborhood by Fordham after 20 years.

Its funny I always hear people talk about Alexanders but I came to the area it was Caldor

such a memorable video:

If there is an event or something to bring me back then I will go, if not, then no - I have moved around the city a bit so going back to one of my old neighborhoods would be a bit out of the way. I have not been back to my childhood/teenage neighborhoods in the north Bronx since my parents moved away in 2000 - nothing for me or to bring me back there. I go back to my most recent "old neighborhood" to get my hair cut, but it is also the closest one to where I live now. As far as the others, I have been back most recently to Forest Hills a couple of times for concerts and I have gone a little early to walk around, things are actually basically the same as they were 20 years ago including many of the stores and restaurants! Also had occasion fairly recently to go back to another old neighborhood in Queens that I hadn't been to since I moved away 25 years ago - things actually haven't changed a lot either other than demographics and the stores a bit.

I went back, knocked on the door and asked if I could come in and look around. The woman who answered the door told me no, and said if I didnít leave she would call the police.
I said... come on mom, thatís just mean!

I took my mother to Ravenswood Houses to relive her memories as her health deteriorates. By a miracle of the Lord the door to her building was propped open and we went inside. It was a happy yet sad occasion, seeing the past rushing back and contrasting with how the houses are now.

Opinion:
It all comes from a point of perspective.
If you grew up in a picture perfect and comfortable environment there would be call to revisit.
If your revisit brings back flashes of uneasy times it is only detrimental.

That set aside, revisiting just to see the old neighborhood comes with no guarantee that you will leave smiling.
I often visit my old neighborhood and walk away disgusted each time as how my once beautiful neighborhood
in which I remember the old ladies washing stoops, sweeping sidewalks, flower pots, old men playing cards and
drinking espressos out front of homes has given way to litter, urine infested vestibules and just uncaring urban decay.
Hope your revisit garners a better experience.
