Wait till these people commit new crimes and their victims sue the city.

the underlying premise is that a policy, in this case limiting cooperation with ICE, is adversely effecting citizens of the city - ie not holding undocumented immigrants past 48 hours for ICE is causing lawless-dangerous criminals into the streets of NYC. There is no data showing that sanctuary cities experience more crime so this premise is a scare tactic which the ICE rep in the story is doing in spades.

NYC has cooperated with ICE in the past ... the reason why there is less cooperation currently is because ICE does not want to work on mutual aspect of cooperation. As new yorkers we should not want, or tolerate, a federal entity like ICE coming into the city without notifying local authorities. ICE should give a heads up to NYPD and it might prove beneficial in so many ways as I am confident law enforcement might have active investigations for some of these 'criminals' which could dovetail into ICE's civil immigration enforcement.

The underlying issue is that immigration is a civil issue and and not a criminal issue so no warrant no cause to detain past due-process timelines. I am amazed that 45's main concern is immigration issues and in the 2-3 yrs of his tenure he has managed to shutdown the gov't for a month over 'the wall' put forth an EO 'banning muslims' and has yet .... to craft an EO to give ICE warrant-like capabilities to sidestep 'sanctuary cities'.... it's this ineffectual leadership that is going to ensure he's a one and done head of the executive branch.

We're talking about sex offenders here. They deserve zero protection.

If all they did wrong was immigrate illegally then I wouldn't care, but sex criminals going free is terrible.
