This. And not only hasidic Jews. Ultra-Orthodox Jews in general.

Not all of the Jews own million dollar homes.
The Jewish neighborhoods of Brooklyn are very diverse economically, with - yes - million dollar homes, but also moderately priced rental apartments and coops.

Brooklyn has a much larger white population then Queens. Queens is still going through massive white flight. Recent census data shows Queens is less then 25% white. Neighborhoods like Bay Ridge and Sheepshead Bay are pretty much "whiter" then any Queens neighborhood.
Brooklyn has a lot of white people largely due to its Orthodox Jewish population which is mostly (not all) white, Russian population, and white hipster/gentrifiers in Northern Brooklyn

Agreed. It is mostly the southern parts of Brooklyn - Midwood, Sheepshead Bay, Brighton Beach, Bensonhurst, Bay Ridge, etc. - which have not been gentrified

And don't forget the role of violence into the 1990s that worked to keep borders tight: Bensonhurst (Yusuf Hawkins, https://brooklyneagle.com/articles/2...awkins-murder/) and Canarsie in particular (fire bombing of real estate agent's office: https://www.nytimes.com/1991/09/25/n...bed-again.html.

In Howard Beach, Queens, the Michael Griffith case was memorable.

Yes, I was talking about what was happening back then--an explanation of why those enclaves persisted for so long. I'm fully aware that things have changed since then, as others have noted.

I would argue that all of those neighborhoods are gentrified in their own way.

And "working class whites" were leaving those neighborhoods before they got expensive. My friend's father is from Hell's Kitchen and they left in the 60s.

Agreed. They were leaving due to low quality of life that predates the hypergentrification era.
