Glendale yes, but not sure about Ridgewood. Back in 2005 the section near Cypress Avenue, Seneca Avenue etc. was pretty much all Hispanic but now you see White people there too. Glendale, particularly the western half definitely has more hispanics then before though, mainly Puerto Ricans.

There use to be a poster here from Ridgewood, Anon1, who lived in Ridgewood, and always had spot on observations about the area.

Opinion:

During the 60's Purely Irish,Italian,German,Yugoslavian,Romanian,South American up until the 2000's
Gone are the German Bars, Knitting mills,Italian Deli's,Restaurants,Butcher Shops,Candy Stores and Vegetable stands.
Bars are replaced by Halls of worship or bodegas. Young whites case the neighborhood for a much lower rent than Greenpoint.
The older whites left in lower Ridgewood are on Rent Control or equivalent subsidy as the makeup of the neighborhood is largely
Spanish. The highest concentration of whites can still be had upward of Forest avenue to Freshpond Road but at an insane cost.
Ridgewood was, is, and always will be a transient destination. Few call it home but many call it investment opportunities forever.

Working class people are leaving simply because of taxes and high COL. You are getting taxed for services you're too high income to qualify to, and you have to comply with ridiculous rules & regs.
There is a threshold for everyone where leaving is simply the better option.

all of these Rudy G/Trump loving WWII vets engaging in their usual hatefest. They seem not to know that Archie Bunker died some time ago.

It does appear as if the 2% of NYers who love Donald Trump all congregate here. They feel perfectly happy screaming that they have a right to call ICE just because they don't like your accent, and then to scream "go back where you come from" if you object. A closed thread had all of them screaming their full throated bigotry.

What is funny is that these people don't know US history. I am willing to bet that none of them arrived on the Mayflower. When their ancestors rolled off rat infested and disease ridden vessels, filled with the unwanted of Ireland, Italy, Russia and Poland others screamed that they should " go back where they come from" and also threatened to have them deported. Forced to live/workin hell holes and yet told "go back where you come from" if their ancestors complained.

Now they all pretend that they arrived on the Mayflower and that North America was an empty land.

Middle class Black and Hispanic NYers are fleeing as well and have been since the 80s/90s. Middle to working class NYers always get the squeeze due to not being able to indulge in NY's massive welfare net but not being rich enough to be unfazed by the taxes/COL. I know it's been said for a long time but increasingly NYC truly is going to be only the rich and the poor with a immigrant working class maybe holding steady.

I've known quite a few Hispanics/AA's/Carribeans that took off to the Poconos. A Dominican store owner in my neighborhood said his cousin is trying to convince him to move out to PA. I've recently seen some Eastern European families around Rufus King Park in Jamaica. I found that kinda interesting.

If you are here legally and have proof of residency you should not have much to worry about. The USA can be a hostile social world but NYC is not as socially complex compaired to how warmer climates and the Carribean island world could be like for when outsiders arrive.

Back in your country of origin they musta taught you from early on that life in America was all free peaches and free ice cream. The history of the USA was probably not preserved as factually as it is presented in history books, but today things really do happen faster than ever. Changing social policies used to take years or decades but today it literally take days or hours with high speed internet connected everywhere.

If any of us visit parts of the Caribbean it's probably not a buncha locals giving out free coconut drinks to any weird tourists arriving from the USA. They probably do not bring USA tourists into their homes for free island hospitality and free rest. Even if their color skin and facial construction is identical they do not know eachother from Adam. If we just arrive in some ordinary village with Carribean locals they probably will not start warmly singing every outsider the songs Red Red Wine and I Can See Clearly Now. Instead, the locals would probably be hostile in most cases, the island people would be concerned that the visitor would take away from their limited resources.

Why odd?

Everyone romanticizes their group. Jews are always celebrating Jewish history & culture. Gays are always celebrating Pride. Blacks, Latinos, Native Americans, et. al., always have days of celebration for their cultures.

Why shouldn't WASPs and white Catholics likewise celebrate themselves? Romanticize themselves, and view their pasts with nostalgia?

A republican wet dream, a return to feudalism
