Do yourself a favor, and avoid the NYC school system in it's entirety. For licensed teacher with options, it should be the last option.

South shore of Staten Island. They’re all good schools because we own our homes, and care about our families and our communities.

No one answering you so far is a school teacher in NYC. I think going by school test scores / ratings is probably a decent corollary for how easy it would be. Some of the really nice private schools pay decently well and have good perks.

My sister was a teacher in the Bronx. The racial politics is pretty intense. The local minority administrators are trying push out all the white teachers.

This is also going on in the DoE headquarters, so it's pretty confirmed.

If you're a minorty, they might not haze you out, but then you'll have to actually deal with the students also.

If you're any good at your job, go to the suburbs. You'll make more and have much better working conditions.

Depends on the surrounding communities. In Queens, Bayside, Whitestone, Douglaston, Middle Village, and Glendale have good elementary schools.
