Hello,
Im 23 with a 9 month old from Connecticut and I was told by somebody to go to PATH.. (Connecticut does not have emergency shelter; theres a waiting list) Does anyone know someone who has been to PATH when homeless? If so what was the outcome? How soon were they able to provide you or the person you know with their own apartment? I just want to know what to expect.
So two days ago you claim you could afford $950 a month for an apartment but now you want to come to a shelter in the Bronx to try and score a free place?
And this is why people dub NYC as the welfare state SMH.....
Coming to NYC will not make your situation any better. Stick to your own state where you know people and your surroundings. You don't want to come to NYC, end up stranded then next thing you know you end up doing things you might not want to for money. your thinking for 2 here so its not just your life you are effecting.
I know first hand that women and babies in NYC is a golden ticket. I live in a rent subsidized apartment building and had this one neighbor that was in the shelter for 3 weeks, move in. They coughed up a coupon for her to go apartment hunting in that time; Sec 8 is still a thing.
and if it a DV case, Oooh boy. You're getting housing same day.
The New Yorker did a fascinating article about a few people's trials and tribulations with the PATH shelters a couple years ago. Harrowing, avoid the4 system if at all possible.
When I read the article I thought to myself that SUICIDE sounds like a better alternative.
