Good evening. I have a family of three. We have a washer at home and laundry lines in the cellar and outside in the backyard to dry them, we don't wish to use a dryer. But my wife and I work and my daughter is in College so our laundry can pile up since we don't do it as often as we could. So since we got several bags I am in the laundry. We used to leave it for the staff at the laundry to do it, but seemingly the prices really shot up. We save lots of money doing it ourselves. I think Laundry mats are some thing all NYC residents should have a opinion on. Any funny, annoying experiences doing your clothes ?
I tried outsourcing twice and one they could not seem to follow directions and use unscented detergent. I cannot be the only person in NY that has sensitive skin.
The other set the dryer too high and everything shrunk or began to look ragged after only a couple of times.
We have a laundry room in the basement but it's always in use 24/7/365 plus the machines suck now and no longer get the clothes clean.
I now go to the laundromat around the corner and it's ok. Better than the one from before. There's always a machine available and it's quicker and more effective than the machines in the building. And I don't have to worry about left over softener from someone else's load getting into mine and making my skin itch.
Will strongly consider moving to a building where washing machines are allowed in the unit if I get more money at some point.
Thankfully we can outsource grocery delivery but I just can't trust anyone to treat my clothes right. I spent just under $1k recently on refreshing my wardrobe and don't want to have to deal with tit for tat small claims because someone mixed up the water or dryer temps with someone else's order.
