Thanks again for all the feedback. I really appreciate it since I havent been back in NY in a while (a long while). Also, any advice on other areas I should also check into?

To answer these questions, you need to provide us with the following:
How much do you want to pay in rent?
What amenities do you need in the neighborhood?
How far of a commute do you want from your job?
Do you have kids/pets?
Those are some basic questions to ask us before we can give you reasonable answers.

Sorry I guess that would of helped.
-Currently, my budget for rent is anywhere from 900 to 1400 until i get my new job.
-The amenities don't really matter, just a decent neighborhood where I won't fear for my life.
-I will have to commute to Manhattan, so no more than an hour away. I used to live in Long Island so i would like to live closer to the city.
-No kids and pets.

Might want to look into J. Heights. Close to the city and still pretty affordable.

You can try Astoria or Sunnyside, Queens. Lots of singles and you can find apts for $1200-$1400. But if you want less gentrification & cheaper rent, head east.

What about Inwood? I think you might find a studio and MAYBE a 1BR at your budget.
