Martense St. at Flatbush Ave, Lefferts Garden is this a safe area to live for 4 female white students aged 17 - 20.

I don't think that the area you are referring to is Prospect Lefferts Garden. I may be wrong but I think it is Flatbush. The train station over there would be the Church Avenue stop on the Q train. Lefferts Garden is around the Prospect Park stop on the Q train.
As far as safety for 4 white women is concerned, someone from the neighborhood can tell you best but from reading the boards and some of the neighborhoods that posters don't feel are safe, I would not recommend it. |

I don't recommenend it, at least from what I saw 2 years ago when I was looking to buy nearby. I do love the Prospect Lefferts Gardens area but Martense and Flatbush, while it is in the vicinity, felt a bit dicey to me. Since it's 4 very young women who may have not developed the streetsmarts that older New Yorkers have, I would say it's not the best. (not the worst either - they MIGHT be totally fine, but I think they also might feel uncomfortable).
Is this already a done deal or do you need suggestions for other neighborhoods? |

that is the heart of flatbush and i dont think that 4 white women ages 17-20 would feel comfortable in the area. sorry if i offended anybody with my statement.

First I need to know other details like how much is the rent budget for what sized apartments, and where do the girls need to commute to? Are they going Manhattan every day, and if so, what part of Manhattan?
But in general without knowing any of this, I would suggest (these are safe place with fairly low rent ranges but still good access for transportation) Bay Ridge, Ditmas Park, or Kensington in Brooklyn Astoria, Sunnyside or Forest Hills in Queens |

Maybe, if you have dreadlocks and like roti and beef patties on coconut bread.
That is on the border of the 67 Pct & the 70 Pct, both high crime police precincts. It is a fairly bad & busy area and I would highly discourage you from moving there. The nearest train stations would be Prospect park or Church Ave and either can be trouble during the off hours. |

If your fascinated with West Indian culture then you will dig it because you will be right in the middle of it. Its not a terrible area and its pretty busy so you can go about your business and not stand out as much as being in some deserted area. Now that doesn't mean your in fantasy land because it still 'goes down' in that area especially in the warm months so you have to be on point. If you want a real test of your comfort level hit the corner of Nostrand and Church on a weekend night and see how it goes.

As far as safe, don't start none, won't be none. As someone here said, go about your business, and you'll be fine.
The neighborhood is mostly Caribbean. Just southwest of it is Ditmas Park, which, due to the still-low coop prices and victorian-style homes, is attracting some professionals of all races and cultures, although still mostly Caribbean. |
