Bus from NYC to Philadelphia?
I'm going to be moving to Philly over the summer to attend school. In order to get there, I first have to take a bus from my parents' house in New England to NYC and then take a bus to From NYC to Philly. I've taken a bus to NYC before, but never to Philadelphia. Can someone recommend a good bus service to me? It needs to leave from Port Authority as that's where I'll arrive, and please keep in mind that I'm going to have 2 large suitcases with me, amongst various other bags, so taking a train is kind of out of the question.
If there's a website with time schedules/fares that you know about... that would be really helpful as well. Thank you!

I'd take a train for the whole trip, if possible, as long as your town in New England has rail service.

Thanks for the links, 009.
waccamatt-- is it possible to bring huge suitcases on a train? The thing is, I can't lift the suitcases... they are so darn heavy. At least with a bus, I know the driver will lift them up to put them underneath the bus. Thanks for the suggestion.
Cheers!

If you're coming into Port Authority Bus Terminal (I assume you are) check out the following which also run from the same complex:
Peter Pan
Greyhound
Search both those sites carefully for discounts and specials.
Greyhound just launched a new discount service, Bolt Bus, which will save you some money. It leaves from 34th & 8th -- six blocks from the southeast corner of Port Authority. If you've got lots of luggage, you'll probably want to take a cab, which would eat up about half of your savings (assuming you get a student discount on either GH or PP.
I had written a much more elaborate post, actually, and lost it. But I get to wondering if I'm the only person who knows how to enter bus, Philadelphia, " New York" in a search engine. Do that, and I'm sure all the various Chinatown buses will pop up, but even the ones with midtown pickups are not likely to be any more convenient than Bolt.
As for your luggage, can you ship a lot of stuff to your school address? Or can your parents ship stuff to you once you've arrived? Why carry more than you have to? It's an expense, but IMO well worth it for the work it saves you.

also from PA, can take NJ transit to Trenton, transfer to Septa. One way I think should be less than $20. Myself I prefer a train to a bus.

If I'm not mistaken, there are also Chinatown Bus lines that run to Philly as well. They leave from way downtown, near Canal street, but I lived down there last year and they were the saving grace for my roommate who lived near Boston.
As far as I know they're from 10-15 dollars each way and... well... they're always an adventure, to say the least. If you like to 'live dangerously', you'll love them.

Most of the half dozen or so Chinatown bus lines have pickup/dropoff points in midtown. But if Nadja has lots and lots of luggage, she's better off spending a few extra bucks for the Greyhound or Peter Pan bus (still considerably cheaper than the trains) than spending almost that much on a taxi to leave her on the street to get the other bus.

Amtrak has "red cap" service which means they take your suitcases for you on carts. There is a small extra charge for this service, plus you would have to give them a tip.
that's how I would travel if I were you.
