Default Bronx neighborhoods

i am moving to the bronx and working there. i will be making $45K and willing to spend up to $1000 on rent. easy access to public transportation is a must. i like a 'small town' feel to a neighborhood and access to parks. can anyone provide specifics on riverdale, woodlawn, pelham bay, morris park, and van cortlandt village?

Apparently you and everyone else are moving to the Bronx...it is the most moved to borough for Manhattan transplants from 2001-2006 I believe..with Brooklyn a DISTANT second. Nonetheless, you will likely enjoy all those neighborhoods..they are primarily suburban and middle class....with plenty of access to the large and numerous parks of the borough.

Enjoy and welcome!

I would go with Morris Park. You MIGHT be able to get a 1 bedroom there with that budget.

Riverdale is generally expensive, especially parts west of fieldston off the hudson. mostly single family homes, co-ops and apartments on riverdale avenue in the 250's and 260's. There is the BXM2 express bus that travels to penn station, You have the Riverdale MNR and Ludlow MNR stations if you need to get to grand Grand Central in about 35 mins. Parks are available, all over and yonkers is right up the street.

Pelham Bay/Country Club has and old school irish/italian middle class feel to it. Cool shops, bakeries, specialty stores, its clean, safe, access to the 6 train on Westchester Ave (rush hour express service gets you downtown quick) and the BXM7A express bus to midtown. Close to Pelham Bay Park. Bay Plaza for shopping and entertainment (movies, applebees, etc)

Morris Park has the same feel as Pelham Bay slightly more diverse, Single and multi family homes, small apartment buildings Access to the 2/5 trains at 180th street, the BXM10 Express to manhattan and local busses on to on Morris Park avenue, close to the parks, botanical garden, the zoo, etc. Anywhere on Williamsbridge Road and Eastchester Road are great bets. Great shopping and the hospital is close as well.

Woodlawn would be your best bet for parks. Van Courtlandt, East sits smack in the neighborhood, you have access to the 4 Train, local busses to fordham and points east. shopping, small apt buildings on 233rd street access to midtown via BXM4 express bus if needed. Metro North is also in the area.

Also check out the Allerton / Pelham Parkway Section off white plains road on both sides of bronx park. Really nice apts up there can be had for $900.

Not too familiar with VCV, but if I had to choose the BX I would do morris park or definitley pelham bay.

Morris Park: starting from the north and moving clockwise: Pelham Parkway to the north, the Amtrak/Metro-North tracks to the east and south, and Bronxdale-Muliner Avenues to the west.

Pelham Bay: Pelham Parkway to the north (the road, not the neighborhood)
Bruckner Expressway to the east and south, Hutchinson River Parkway to the west, Look for apts on Westchester Ave, Middletown Road, near the train stops, the further south you go to the expressway, less apts more single family-multi family homes.

Country Club: mostly if not all homes, its basically the hood west of I95.
Pelham Bay Park to the north, Eastchester Bay to the east, Fairmount Ave on the south, and the I-95 to the west.
