Default How do you move to New York?

Hi,
I will be moving from Georgia to a graduate school apartment in Manhattan this August. This may be a stupid question, but how does one physically move all their belongings into a downtown residence on a busy street? Do I need some type of permit to park my U-Haul and unload my stuff?

Thanks in advance!

Bring some friends - if you can't find a parking place someone stays with the 'stuff' (and that person should also be able to drive, because if the police tell you to move, you'd better move!) while the rest of you move the stuff. Welcome to the world of double-parking. I hope you're not bringing your car, though!

Yeah if your building has an elevator you might have to schedule a time with the super so he can throw up those blankets on the sides of the elevator.

Some buildings also only let you move in on the weekdays 9-5. So you better check out what the details before you make the move.

Leave most of it. Bring your clothes and computer. Buy a bed when you get here and throw it on the floor like everybody else. Bring all the cash you can beg borrow or steal and the next thing you know you are living in ny.

just park that thing right on the street. everybody else does it, and i'm not trying to be funny either. When you get there you are not gonna find a parking spot, and you will just be playing yourself talking with the super. The super will probably try and make a quick buck off you lol

here's another idea
If it's residential parking outside the building then check when street cleaning is and plan to arrive somewhat before street cleaning ends. for example, if street cleaning is from 9-10:30am on Tuesdays and Thursdays, then schedule your move for one of those two days and arrive BEFORE 10:30. Arrive, say, at 10am and wait in your car/truck until the official street cleaning time is over.

This works in my neighborhood in Queens, but I have no idea whether it works in Manhattan. I would imagine it does.

unfortunately, there is no street cleaning "map" of the city online or anywhere else that I know of, so you would have to ask someone to physically check the signs out front.
