Glen Oaks is nice, check it out
If you are looking for a nice place still inside NYC.
Then maybe try Glen Oaks. My niece bought a 2bdr co-op for $285,000.
Washer dryer in unit and she has an attic for storage
She pays almost no taxes, but is still in Queens right on the Nassau border.
Crime is very low they have their own security patrol.
Daily garbage pickup, onsite maintenance, good schools, park, shopping center.
She gets an express bus into Manhattan every weekday.
when she takes her car she has no trouble parking since there is no alternate side parking like Manhattan.
They also have garages.
As a person who grew up in Manhattan and has relatives in Queens, Bronx and Long Island this seems nice for couples, seniors or people with small children.
I took her children door to door trick or treating this Halloween, were else can you do that in NYC.

Yes, I seen those they are quite nice. They were $120K 5 years ago
People have these BBQ's and little partys outside the front door summer, sit in chairs card tables just like old Brooklyn in the 60s.
The upstairs units have these little wrap around staircases like captains quarters.
To add the Hampton Jitneys stop outside the movie theatre take you straight to the Hamptons, Montauk or Midtown
However people do slapped with some hefty maintenance fees for 4X12 patches of lawn.

Costs
The maintenance for a 2bdr is about $550. There is almost no city taxes and a refund because of the STAR program. they have on iste maintenance and garbage pickup.
The shopping center has a supermarket, Burlington Coat Factory, MJM Shoes, Duane Reade, Eckherd, McDonalds, Pizza, Chinese Food, Hollywood Video, Cleaners, Post Office and a couple of banks.
She has a washer dryer in her unit. Try getting that in an apt. the local park which is right in the middle of the co-op's has a little league, soccer and football.
They also have playgrounds and parking garages for storage
