List of $20 NYC-DC Buses
I'm living in DC and I have heard a lot about these discount buses that run back and forth between NYC and DC. Some people at work said that tickets can be as cheap as $20 one-way! They sound like a great deal but I have never tried one...any experienced bargain travelers out there have any advice/tips? Mostly I'm wondering:
- Are there multiple different companies?
- Which would you recommend for the best combination of value, reliability, new/decent buses?
- Also if you know the websites to any of them, please share!

I heard about a new one called BOLT that has free WiFi on the bus and cheap tickets...any experience with this one?

My brother has used BOLT from DC to NY. He says it's great. I think the earlier you 'book' your ticket, the cheaper the seats are.
There's another one too, similar to Bolt, but the name is escaping me at the moment. I think it might be Megabus, but don't quote me on that. Apparently this one is launching next month and for the month of May, all seats are free. Also WiFi and outlets I think.

I think you can find them via the internet. One well-known one is called Fung Wah. I took one on impulse from Boston, and it was okay, but certainly a lesser experience. More uncomfortable, dirtier, a driver with little or no English, and they're not considered as safe as a "name brand."

Check out Peter Pan and Greyhound as well. You can often get $35 r/t NY-DC, esp. if you book on line. Students get discounts (as do seniors), and sometimes there are other special promotions. Be careful to check the sites thoroughly. Sometimes you have to scroll far to the side or something to find a nice savings.
Also, google "Chinatown Bus, New York City, DC." There are dozens. Some of them even have pick-up/drop-off points in midtown.
Vamoose Bus lines services NYC and the DC suburbs of Bethesda and Alexandria. If either of those destinations works for you, it's great, as you don't have to schlep from the bus terminal to Union Sta. and then to the Metro.
Bolt is a subsidiary of Greyhound, and Coach lines has also launched a discount service.
