No because places like Albany, Buffalo, Utica etc would still be blue. If anything, NY would likely be a Democratic leaning swing state, like Pennsylvania and New Hampshire.
Excerpt: If New York City were cut from New York state, would New York state be a red state?
Response: Green State... If you ain't got the braciole you ain't got a chance...
To think in 1984 Reagan was able to win the state of NY. Many of you aren't really old enough to remember a conservative NY. Even in the bad ole days, there were more than plenty of white conservatives living in the outer boroughs.
America was truly united as a country in the mid 80s. Sure there were spots that were anti GOP/Reagan, but we knew who our enemies were and we had more than enough in common as a country and people to agree on that. Many attack MAGA....but this is, imo, what MAGA is referring to. Not some racist 1950s nonsense.

I've lived in Cassadaga for about 15 months while going to trade school. It's an hour outside of Buffalo. It's very beautiful and a far cry from NYC. Unfortunately much of this area is economically depressed. Not a ton of opportunities. It gets very cold and very snowy in this area. A lot of the residents I've talked to hate nyc and would love to see it seceded from the rest of the state, and I can't blame them.
I've also been to Niagara Falls. Economic disparity between the US and Canadian side is embarrassing. I don't know anything about Canada's economy, but the areas around the falls are dilapidated.

You are correct. The whole MAGA thing is welcoming of all people from what I see. It's the other "team" that's says trump supporters are the "KKK". I just have to laugh.
I’ve been to 42 of the 50 states. Many of them driven from end to end multiple times. New York is the most beautiful one in my opinion. California would probably beat us but I don’t have as much CA experience. Close runner up is West Virginia but there’s no beaches. Why do NY and CA have to be so damned leftist? I’m freaking moving to NJ to get some relief but still be close to upstate NY. If I could never enter the city limits again after the end of the next school year, I’d be a very happy man.
I too, have been to many of our states, along with other countries beyond our shores. Have to be careful with generalizations here. I see upstate as conservative...but not in the way many other conservative states are. A lot of gun owners up here, but neither side of this hot button topic gets too worked up about it. This goes for most other aspects of life. Maybe more of a "live and let live" attitude from folks? In conversations with visitors from other states...some constant themes come through. One..that visitors find the majority of people in upstate NY to be open and friendly. Another is that we don't hang our political views out in front of us...hoping to challenge anybody with a different view. And while not related to politics, many 1st time visitors to upstate are surprised by the amount of rural/scenic areas. LOl...I recall..years back...having a friend of mine(from the south) visit up here while we were both on leave...Took a drive up to the ADK's...he couldn't believe that was all part of NY. And, at the risk of staying a bit off topic...contrary to what many in the U.S might believe, I found folks in/around NYC to be helpful and friendly to me during my few visits down there.
Moved from Nassau County to Hamburg ( south of Buffalo) 5 years ago and I dont feel like I'm missing much. Live in a safe community with good schools, decent restaurants, low traffic, affordable housing prices and reasonable property taxes ( for New York State). I wouldn't say by any stretch that there is "nothing here". That is a perception that downstaters have that never made sense to me. I have hiking, skiing, the beach, professional sports, theater, casinos, museums, etc all within a 30 minute drive of my house. The only real negative here is the winters, which I'm not going to sugarcoat. However that's what February trips to Florida are for. Come on up and explore the "nothing" up here. There are definitely some hidden gems.
Didn’t mean to imply any negativity. It is beautiful up there especially the wilderness. It’s just a stark contrast to nyc. I would retire there myself except the awful policies by Albany politicians
Cooperstown and Lake George are nice towns with a scenery
Most NYC residents know or been to New Rochelle, Yonkers, White Plains, Mount Vernon mostly
