Bensonhurst, from Italy
Hi everybody! I'm an italian guy, I'm from the North of Italy (sorry for my bad english). Could anyone help me about a question? Next month I'm gonna go to New York, and I would like to visit bensonhurst, where Italy heart lives in New York again. I'd like to know if this borough is a quite borugh where I can go and where I can taking a walk around and eat typical italian foods in any pretty restaurant or if this borough is quite dangerous for a foreigner like me (even if I'm italian).
Thanks everybody!
Davide

Bensonhurst is a safe neighborhood. It is not as Italian-American as it used to be, so locals would be happy to see people like you coming from Italy.
Just out of curiosity, where in northern Italy are you from?

I think that you'll be very disappointed, while the area isn't dangerous, rome is far more scary, the brooklyn italian is nothing like a true italian, the are usually very unsophisticated low class types

I've been to Verona, Lago di Garda, etc and have family in Veneto.
Bensonhurst is more mixed than it used to be and since immigration from Italy is not what it used to be, people are farther removed from Italy. The neighborhood is somewhat dead now. However, it is still the closest place to Italy as far as people and stores/restaurants.

I recommend checking out Dyker Heights, which is just west of Bensonhurst. It's a more expensive neighborhood though.

Ok, thanks! So, you say that I can go over there? Is it a safe place? And how far is it from Manhattan? Have I to take subway?

yes it is fairly safe, safer than parts of many cities in Italy and yes the best way to get out there is via subway
