Hello!

I am a young student looking for a cool place to live in NYC. I have a few questions about the city and especially the rentals. I am of course looking for something cheap in a SAFE area. I would like to be within a 45 min Max. commute to Times Square. I looked up Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn, and it seems that 2 bedrooms in safe areas are very expensive. I will be moving with a friend and since I am young and flexible, I thought that maybe just a kinda large studio / 1 bedroom apartment would be enough space for the two of us. Are there any kinda large places like these for $1000-1100/month available? I have read that Astoria is a cool and cheap place to live in, do you think that a large 1 bedroom for this price range would be findable? or perhaps somewhere else? The biggest concern is the safety because I really do not mind having to stay a long time in the subway or else...
Also, I have been looking up schools in NYC, which one between SUNY or CUNY do you think is better ( as they both are almost the same price) and also, which campus would be the best as well (for example , I know that CUNY has one in Manhattan and another one in Brooklyn...) .

Thank you very much for your attention!

SUNY and CUNY both have many campuses. Define your interests.

Also, tuition for out-of-state/city is much higher than it is for NYS/C residents. You don't mention whether you're in this or some other state.
