It's worth a look at the very least...the quality is far better than Parkchester, as are the prices. It is closer to the city, however the area is not as secure feeling, or self-contained. Since I am a local Bronx dude...I would def go for this co-op over Pakchester, but a newbie might be more comfortable in a parklike setting like Parkchester.
I think the value in the Solara is incredible for what you get, for the area, and the proximity to the city.

Well, I'm certainly a newbie. I'm a brooklyn girl. But have been living in Harlem (Riverside Park Comm.) for the last 3 years. And I'm dying to escape that particular building. The bronx seems to be the only place in new york, that is still reasonably affordable. Seemed like you described me perfectly, I do like the "secure", "parklike" setting that parkchester seems to have.

The fact remains that you also get to live in a brand new development, with private indoor parking, granite countertops, all the other bling, gym, landscaped area, in NYC! That in and of itself is the value and payoff...anything over that is gravy.

yeah but we're talking about different areas of the south bronx....167th and the concourse isn't the greatest locale....at least mott haven has the proximity to manhattan in its favor....granted 167th isnt that far either, but i dont think the revitilization of that area will progress until mott haven and melrose improve dramatically, and although that has started, it will take time for it to do a complete about face like for example williamsburg. that took about 10 years. and once williamsburg gentrified, it spread to bushwick. i think the same will happen for the bronx in a northerly direction.
dont get me wrong i'm not saying the solara is a bad investment. its a good one. just saying that it will take time to reap the benefits. me personally i would love to be in the executive towers (the white house) if i had my choice to live in the bronx.

I have been in the executive towers and did not like it. I like the views and balconies...that's about it. The interiors are like Parkchester apts circa 1990...
7th what you are missing is living in this co-op, being brand new, with luxury finishes, indoor private parking, fitness center, landscaped areas, etc IS the benefit! Who lives like that ANYWHERE in NYC? The wealthy...and at these prices...there is no better bet anywhere in the city at prices of $1,000,000 in many cases.
This is a great development, and the reward is to live there. In addition, you will ALSO get a healthy return as there is ONLY upside when prices are this low and the area is still changing.

This one's in a pretty good spot too. View of the park and walking distance to 180th St Station (i/e East & West side access).

University Heights has the largest Vietnamese concentration in the Bronx.
They're mostly on Andrews avenue. On Andrews ave south they have sort of like a temple, only one house, and these are mostly older folks.
But on Andrews ave north, oh boy. Andrews ave north is majority black and the Vietnamese there are drug dealers. They're no joke. They carry samurai swords and have been known to decapitate people. Why else would the Dominicans and blacks co-exist with them.
They hold weight.
