Thumbs up Chow Chow Cup in Brooklyn

YES>>>YES>>>YES...I do remember Chow Chow Cup. I lived in Brooklyn,in Sheepshead Bay on Bragg Street and Ave V. My husband lived in the Bayview projects,in Carnarsie....all in the 1960s. We both remember this amazing truck. We now live in Maryland, and everyone thinks that we are making this stuff up.But,we both remember the cup being made out of chinese noodles.

Smile chow chow cup

I can't believe i found this! i was thinking about the chow chow cup and wondered if there was anything about it online...i remember it so well...i'll loved the noodle cup! it was one of my favorite childhood memories! that, along with my favorite toy in the world, garloo...
anyone remember garloo?

i too moved from brooklyn to valley stream when i was younger...when i lived in washington state, no one knew what i was talking about! now, living in the fort lauderdale area, we have a guy who sells chow mein on a bun! hadn't heard that in ages!..aahh..
chinese restaurants certainly have changed...when i was growing up you had choices of either, chow mein, fried rice, eggrolls, wonton soup, eggdrop soup and shrimp with lobster sauce! not much else! but it was good...
thanks for the memories, folks!

I grew up in Rosedale 1960-1982. I remember the chow chow cup truck very well. I lived on 149 rd across from the Captains house if any one remembers that. Rosedale was a great place to grow up. We were able to walk places without depending on parents to take us everywhere. The world was a different and safer place then. We used to walk to 195 every day and even back home again for lunch. The only kids who ate in school were those whose moms worked or if it was a bad weather day. We played outside after school for hours and the same on weekends. Kids today have to always be entertained in one way or another. We had no cell phones, computers etc. only toys and electronics of that time and we all did just great.

I remember the Chow Chow Cup trucks very well because my father- Chow Suey Louie - was one of the legends working those trucks back in those days. The trucks were Mr. Softee trucks but were painted an off-yellow for the upper half and burgundy for the bottom half with a China man caricature painted on the upper portion of both sides of the truck. I'm happy to say that both my father and one of his best friends, George, who worked another one of those trucks are both doing well though they are a bit older now. My father's route included City College in the city during the fall, winter and spring. Our family used to go up to Monticello for the summers so that my father could work the bungalow colonies and racetrack while the rest of our family would enjoy the summers. Our family used to benefit first as we were able to eat the wontons as they were being prepped. I'm not sure how many of you were at Woodstock but my father said he worked that too. Some of you may also remember Ruby the Knish man- I do. I just happen to randomly come across this thread so I will definitely relay the sentiments onto my father, George and others that worked those trucks. I am sure that they will revel in the fact that all of you fondly remember their trucks, the food and those that worked them. Thanks to all!

Default chow chow cup melody

What was the melody? I've been trying for 20 years to remember it! If anyone remembers, please let me know.

Default The Real Deal

I've read all the comments about Chow Chow Trucks from the 60's and 70's. My boyfriend, George, was an original Chow Chow Cup Truck operator who worked in Bayside (Bayside H.S., Queensboro Community College and other area schools). In the summer, he worked near Monitcello in the towns of South Fallsburg and Ellensville and even worked at Woodstock in 1969. George is a friend of Louie (who was called Chop Suey Louie back in those days) whose son posted a comment previously. I am attaching a picture of George's truck, just to clarify what the trucks actually looked like.
