I wouldn't know where to find Cuban food. But isn't Cuban, Puerto Rican and Dominican food the same? They all have the rice, beans and meat the same. Maybe a few dishes here and there differ but in general is the same.
Go to the countless spanish restaraunts throughout the city.
PR food= Cuban food = DR food
Oh Noooooo,,,
Puerto Rican beans are red beans,
Cubans Frijoles are black.
Cubans Frijoles coked with rice, Congri (puerto rican do the same but with kidney beans) Also Moros con Cristianos (funny how they came up with this name, think about it.)
Lechon(pork), almost the same, usually Cuban lechon is by Caja China, is a different way.
Puerto Rico has Mofongo, Cuba doesnt.
Mariquitas or platanutres are the same.
P.R. use Sofrito for cooking
Cuban uses Recaito.
Even the Arroz con pollo, is different in P.R., DR, Cuba and Spain.
But unless you eat puerto rican and cuban food often, you will never know the difference.
My parents are cubans, and I was born and raised in San Juan, PR.
What about Mangu? Is that solely a dominican thing or do cubans and puerto ricans eat it as well?

Holy Cr@P! Don't say that. I nearly started WW 3 with a Puerto Rican co-worker of mine one day when I said the same thing. She completely flipped the hell out on me, and yelled at me that PR food was nothing at all like Dominican food.
Honestly I feel like you're right, because it is all pretty much the same ingredients wise (Puerto Ricans don't eat ox-tail though, so I think thats different) with some minor variations. Pretty much all Carribean food is delicious in my book, both Spanish influenced and Afro/Indo food from places like Jamaica and Trinidad.
Heheheheh,,,
You should have said Puerto Rican food is like Cuban food......
Puerto Rican(and I mean puerto rican not newyoricans) hate dominicans.

Ok,, Mangu is 100% dominican,, That doesnt mean Puerto Ricans dont eat it. Especially with all the dominican in Puerto Rico.
Mofongo is fried
Mangu is boiled.
Mofongo is dry, and is served with Caldo
Mangu is served with a red sauce(generally)
But if you go to a puerto rican rest. you shouldnt see mangu on the menu.

Dominican beans are red too.
We eat black beans.
We eat moros con guandule y con abichuela roja
I tought mofongo was Dominican because we eat that alot too
but the main point is it's almost the same. I ate a lonche de arroz con habichuela roja y pollo gisao made by a PR lady and it tasted worse than what I am accostumed too from the Dominican ladies. I guess the variation is in taste because all three cultures are very similar and share the same food.
I think there was a quote that went something like......Puerto Rico and Cuba are the wings on a bird and Dominican Republic is it's heart.

Im Dominican btw.
Dominicans in R.D. dont eat mofongo, only in the states, and mofongo is 100% Puerto Rican, your version is mangu.
Yes Dominicans eat red beans, not usually black bean.
moron con gandule??? then it wouldnt be moro, gandules are not black.
lonche???
pollo gisao in PR use Sofrito, Dominican usually dont use sofrito.
Are very similar, but the taste are way off one another.
There are a few Cubans around in all the Hispanic neighborhoods, but if you want a Cuban community, your gonna have to go to Jersey. That doesn't really exist in NYC.
