Thank you for all the information, everyone.
At one moment, I thought Mead was a Singaporean when he wrote some singlish.
No worries. I bet that I will have questions.
By the way, do you know why this thread is being moved?
Have a week ahead.

I'm not a Singaporean, but I lived there for a year. It is really a wonderful country you have over there, and I hope to move back there some day.
Oh I also thought of one other thing you should consider. There is some Makkan available in NYC, but as of yet I have not found any real Singaporean food, as all of it is Malaysian (mostly from KL). The restaurants that bill themselves as Singaporean are really just KL style restaurants. Even the Hokkien Mee they serve is cooked KL style, with the black sauce. Just something to consider.
Once again though, feel free to ask any questions you might have.
No idea why the thread is being moved though.

I like to express my deepest gratitude to all members of New York City-Data Forum for your valuable information. I am deeply moved by your kind gesture.
We may be flying over in March to check out the locations that you all have advised and will decide where we are going to stay for the next two years. We will be relocating in June to New York City in June this year.
I like to ask if there is anything that a homemaker like me (if I cant find a job) do in NYC? Can she take up freelance jobs? or maybe any places (e.g. community centres) where she can make new friends and learn new skills whilst adapting her new life in NYC? I thought that these activities can keep me busy.
Once again thanks!

Hi...
I am a Singaporean living in Manhattan. I don't think you and your husband should live in Manhattan as it is too expensive. I don't think you can get a decent studio for that amount of money. There is a place in China Town in Manhattan where they sell "Singapore Food" its called Singapore Cafe. I would not rate the food that high. Anyway living outside of Manhattan is much more reasonable. About you being able to work... If you have a B2Visa/ Visitor Visa which means you can't work. Maybe you can do freelance work but do be careful just in case you get caught. I am sure you will enjoy your stay in NYC because its beautiful.

There's better places for Makaan in Manhattan than that Singapore Cafe place. That place is run by people from KL anyways, so they shouldn't be misrepresenting themselves by calling it a Singaporean restaurant. They can't even make proper Singapore style Hokkien Mee, they always use the black sauce like in KL.
I don't know of any real Singaporean restaurants in NYC, but you can find pretty good Malaysian food in other parts of the city. In Chinatown there's this place on Doyers street, off of Bowery that is pretty good. I forget the name of it, haven't been there in a couple of months, but its a very small restaurant with limited seating on the first floor, so they seat a lot of people in the basement that they have. There is also another Malaysian restaurant across the street from this place. There is also a little cluster of Malaysian restaurants on the other side of the Manhattan bridge.
What is your opinion on the subway system here? I always get pissed off about how dirty the subway is compared to the MRT. How do the Singaporeans keep their subway system so clean, while ours seems so dirty in comparison? Is there some secret that I'm not understanding, or what is it? The windows and doors of the subways in NYC always seem so dirty, while I never remember seeing that problem in Singapore or even Hong Kong on the MTR.
