Clean sneakers?

Hey that's what they were called....
the term projects are used by other states, IMO to define the run down area
I've seen projects in the south that would make for middle class, garden homes
Projects were government , state and city built apartments built too help people that could not pay rent .they were basically the original section 8 type aid units to help aid with families who could not pay their rent . The worst slums don't always have too be in the actual projects ,Eventually they made section 8 which allowed this funding too leap out of the projects . Now with section 8 in all different neighborhoods many neighborhoods have project like cultures with out being actually " projects" .

On the other note I would defiantly recomend too visit hunts point and end with a bus ride too fordham road for a glimpse of a ghetto street with items sold cheap on the streets . I think you will find fordham more interesting more fun and entertaining and a better judge of the culture through the items being sold on the streets and life style of people conversing and buying things on fordham road than "projects" Which are basically boring almost communist type buildings , Where people are bored and hang out instead of actually conversing and socialising and shopping and doing what they do when they are not at home .

- Growing up in the midwest you probably have a midwest accent and more than likely blonde hair and blue eyes . Even italians from places in queens from places like howard beach are picked off right away as outsiders in the projects in nyc , People in nyc are soo weary they know where people are from outside of the city with in a couple of seconds of looking at you , They can even tell what part of the city you are from . You can defiantlyhave trouble! You will more than likely be heckeled .Have stare downs . And be offered drugs . You will also likely be taken into deals such as donations / and buying merchandise or buying a rap cd . Than being charge 50 bucks for it . And if you dont buy it they will try too intimidate you . Lol

If you do not fit into the projects and you look around all curious . You are the "Man" you are there too collect the rent or evict people OR you are there too " Buy " Or " Sell " Drugs . They will be beyond overly suspicious of you .

Everyone is right new yorks ghettos are basically weak compared too the rest of the country . I mean even in new jersey and conneticutt you have ghettos that make new york look like sesame street . You have too realise that new york has one of the best police forces in the country! You can't even take a **** with out a cop seeing it lol .

Camden ,Newark ,Irvington ,Detriot ,East Saint Louis , Saint Louis , Watts , New Orleans , HartFord ,Chicago's south side , Philedelphia , Miami , Memphis , Tampa ,Cleveland , All make new yorks ghettos look like peewees play house . The list can go on and on and on too .

They say East Saint Louis is the ghetto too end all ghettos . No one in america has gone too east saint louis with out telling you no where in this country is anywhere even close too as bad!

They say east saint louis was twice as bad as the south bronx when it was at it's worse . And that east saint louis is twice as bad now as it was than . East Saint Louis seems too be the closest place in america too being comparable too a 3rd world ghetto .

I have heard you hear almost constant gun shots in East Saint Louis , I have heard you hear more gun shots than cars or people .I have heard people talk about having there houses broken into and being held up at gun point on a weekly basis in East Saint Louis . I have heard that there is a street with 3 miles of strip clubs in east saint louis And that there are roads that can go 5 miles of seeing only abandoned buildings with out seeing a single building ocupied , Exept being occupied by Seeing Homeless people living in these buildings .

I've been living in flushing queens for 22 years (all my life) and let me just say, new york city is not as ''ghetto'' as the movies portray it to be here. But hey if you want an adrenaline rush and be grateful for where you live I suggest places in Queens like Jackson Heights, Corona, South side Jamaica (NOT Jamaica Estates, that is on the other side and thats where the wealthy reside.) Well good luck and be sure to dress accordingly, dont forget to lose the camera hanging around your neck when your coming from sightseeing. Oh Bedford Stuyvesant has it pretty bad too. Last year around this time 2 police officers were shot and one died in the line of duty there. Many shootings can potentially occur if your there. Have fun

Parts of Jackson Heights in Queens are designated IMPACT zones. IMPACT zones are areas where crimes occur on a more active basis. Queens Borough Queens North/Queens North Task Force proactively patrol those areas.

Impact zones do not equal ghetto. Jackson Heights is not a ghetto, and the OP wanted to see the ghetto. Also, I'm sure you'll notice most of the impact zones are concentrated on Roosevelt Ave, which is just a small part, of a much bigger area, and it's highly unlikely that anything bad is going to happen to you there, unless you travel there at night when all the rowdy drunks are standing outside of the clubs.
