We may have more projects but the cities crime is dramatically low and projects are being refurbished and safe. King Kong got nothing on us

But I have no links to mafia, do not trade stocks and do not go to the projects. So it makes my chances better in NY.

Well based it on this website. On this website it shows that a city with almost 9 million people have way less crime than san Francisco

that for me, the weather plays a big roll, just as much as the cost of living.
San Francisco is a beautiful city, one of the most beautiful I have seen; very European, and cultural. Because it is a small city, we had a hard time finding a place to live. So we ended up moving out of the city, to Daly City, a few miles south of San Francisco. It was nice and not very expensive, we even had a beautiful ocean view from our apt. Night were very foggy though. Communting to the city was easy. The BART train system is wonderful, safer, cleaner and more efficient than NY Subways. On weekends we travel to wine country and even to the mountains just a couple hrs. Looking back, life was pretty good then.
New York on the other hand is much busier, noisier, and expensive than San Francisco. The cost of living is ridiculous. Our rent is three times our mortgage in Florida. Food is twice as expensive too. For me, the weather is definetely a downside for me. I gladly put up with it because all of the other things that the city offers. There is just too much to do all year round. I enjoy that. It is more cosmopolitan than SFO and Miami, of course! but it is also the most expensive of the three. Our stay here is temporary, and it would not be any other way. We have a 10 yr old daughter who is having a hard time adjusting. Schools are over-rated here. I feel that the schools and the academic programs in FL are way better. For us, Florida is where we feel best at home. We are immingrants from Latin America, and Florida offers many advantages for us: Language, weather and lifestyle. But if I had to choose between NY and San Francisco, I would definetely choose SFO. Good Luck with your decision.

BART is a commuter rail not a subway. Subways are only for the city themselves. We have tons commuter rails and they are clean as BART and has a better design. Please nyc trains are more efficient. we have the biggest subway system in the world and alot more transit options

NYC weather is all seasons what makes it a downside for you. How are the schools overrated? What did you send your daughter to private or public. How can you say that the schools are better in fl, when obviously that all depends what school you go to. NY is home to the most prestigious schools, high schools and colleges. We have about 170 different languages spoken in the city. weather is great, lifestyle all depends on the person.

Don't a lot of people complain that the big problem with BART is, it doesn't take you where you want to go? I've heard quite a few complaints from people in the Bay Area about this.

My family's moving this month... so my landlord is showing potential tenants the place... one guy obviously not from here (sounded like a California accent, but I didn't hear enough) was like "and what's the easiest way to get to New York from here" and my landlord... very stereotypical Brooklyn-Italian 50-something woman who probably rarely leaves city limits... just gave him the most confused look until it finally clicked in her head "oh! You mean Manhattan? Yeah, there's an express bus three blocks away."
I dunno about other NYers, but when I say just "New York", I usually mean the whole state or the whole metro, depending on the context.

Hmm...how can one even compare the 2...as they have nothing in common besides being the most expensive places to live in the country. One is a global/international destination, with a profoundly rich and tumultuous history known around the world, the financial capital of the country, the epicenter of culture and a reflection of the world, a city of 8 million and growing, a diverse and powerful economy, and home of the elite, the destitute, and everything in between. The other is San Fransisco.....why is this even a thread?

San Francisco is just another small, provincial, non-cosmopolitan town.
There are "other" cities and then there is New York City. No comparison.

I was just in Cali for a week.
SF is way more laid back, less crowded, less stressful. It offers a lot of the same things NYC offers but on a smaller scale and that has its own pros and cons.
Its also a much nicer looking city, no offense to my beloved NYC. Its more organized, greener, and cleaner (even with homeless people all over the place). Culture wise, SF has a lot to offer but NYC still gets the edge there. Nightlife, NYC wins easy. NYC weather is generally better, but the Summers here are horrible, I don't care what anyone says. Honestly its a matter of preference, SF really is probably the most similar city to NYC in the U.S., but there really isn't any place like NYC.

Cleaner? Are you blind? San Francisco is disgustingly filthy.
I don't think SF looks nicer. Naturally, yes; San Francisco has a more varied natural landscape but the architecture is horrendous. Manhattan looks way better and livelier than the city of San Francisco. The hoards of homeless roaming the streets give it an even grosser look.
I've never been impressed by San Francisco as it's extremely overrated.
It's all just boring to me.
