'short trip'? unless you can get out of the Bay Area before 1pm on a Friday (and sometimes even on a Thursday), no sidetrip to nearby towns are 'short trips'... you're looking at least 4-6 hours to get to Tahoe, Mendocino, Carmel, etc., and possibly horrible traffic.

I'd raise a child in Manhattan over SF any day. SF is a small, unsophisticated city. It is definitely not safer than Manhattan, and Manhattan is very safe.

I do agree with you that costs are out of control in both though... : )

But they both work from home. So leaving late on a thursday, or whenever ,wouldn't be a big deal for them. They have very flexible work schedules. A 4 drive for me, is NO big deal whatsoever. I wouldn't do it every week. But every 3 or 4 weeks would be enjoyable. The one posted about his cousins, YA EXACTLY, their in their 20's. Raising a kid and partying to the wee hrs in Mannhattan, are two completely different things.

And this is somehow better in New York? I go from NYC to the Boston area at least couple of weekends a month and by bus or car it takes well over two hours just to get through Manhattan and the Bronx most Friday nights. Coming back Sunday night, you hit wall to wall traffic in Connecticut or Westchester Co. I started taking the train even though the schedule is lousy for me and it costs over $200 roundtrip.

1. San Francisco (and all other US cities) aren't good enough for me. San Francisco is small and just.. stupid.

2. Manhattan kids are better and more sophisticated than any other breed of child.

That's all.

Jesus, why did i look back at the NYC forum? And why am I even posting to this? San Fran is the most educated city in the country. Seattle is 2nd. And them kids who grow up in the Mannhattan of 'today', will be a bunch of snobby little MARY'S too! U ny'ers are starting to make me sweat. I'm actually embarrassed for u guys. Wow, Hollywood really did a number on u guys! U really do believe all the hype, dont u. The biggest problem with San Fran is the cost. But u guys dump on it, likes it's Cleveland or pittsburgh. Give me a break. San Fran is a city known the world over. U ny'ers are actually turning my stomache. Bashing San Fran like it's Toledo ugly step sister.....PAAAAAleeeeease!

I beg your pardon?

I've been several times and thought I should give a chance to a city obviously much smaller, uncultured and just farm-like in comparison to New York but I was extremely dissapointed. I tried to like it but it failed miserably when compared to the world"s five or so cosmpolitan cities.

I'm too above such a place.

what are you talking about, nobody i know is snobby and i got to school in manhattan. Ive been to 3 different schools in manhattan and 12 different camps, nobody i know from any of those are snobby. NYc is home to the some of the most prestigious schools in america. Heres an example to the most expensive school in ny The Dalton School http://www.dalton.org/default.asp?bhcp=1(They want $30,650 for grades K-3) and the hardest high school to get into Stuyvesant High School.

Haaahaaahaahaha. I wonder sometimes why I waste time on city-data. And then I realize again and again it is because of comedy - like the famous welder.

Welder, please spend a few hundred bucks and take a flight to NYC. Browse around NYC for a few days, at least a couple, and then take a flight back to SF. After settling in SF for a day or two, then make a post of what your thoughts are. Unfortunately, you'll probably be on prozac after returning to SF because you will be depressed from realizing how you over estimated SF. SF will seem so small time that it's not even funny. I'm very familiar with SF, and its surroundings such as east bay, san jose area, and so on. So I'm not just making things up.

Riverdale is more expensive than Dalton.

I beg your pardon? This is my last and final post. I aint even going to glance at this website anymore, I'm ready to PUKE! Now San Fran is FARM LIKE? Uncultured? Ny'ers are a bunch of idiots. 30 grand for k-3? And these kids aint going to grow up as sheltered little MARY'S? Farm like LOL LOL LOL! Mannhattan really is changing, WOW! I know that Mannhattan always had snobs, but I think they're out numbering the average ny'er. Do u guys consider San Fran farm land now? And there's only 5 real cities in the world? By your standards I know the outer boroughs dont count as NYC. Maybe the UGLY AMERICAN, is a ny'er who travels abroad. And they're all tough guys now too. I had a kid bragging to me about hard the BRONX is. I agreed with him. By I told him there are hard areas and hard people from shining see to shining see. He didnt want to hear it though. The guys from the Bronx were the baddest. He was maybe 130 ponds soaking wet! I wish I could have taken him to Gary, Detroit, East St. Louis, etc. And dont think that there aint some mean ass farm boys out there. Cause there are. Have him run his mouth about the Bronx. San Fran farm like. U sound very un-cosmopolitan (like some kind of hick actually) with a DUMB statement like that. I'm done. This is a waste of time talking here.
