No permits outside of the garden. It's catch as catch can. It can be tough to find a place to park. We try to arrive right after street cleaning, and leave our car in one place for a week.

As to Rego Park, it's almost indistinguishable from Forest Hills proper. But it's the next neighborhood closer to Manhattan, meaning that the buses are going to be that much more crowded coming in from FH.

Rego Park is indistinguishable from the part of Forest Hills that is right next to RP. But FH is quite different further way from RP towards Kew Gardens.

Growing up in FHG, I would say its better than Jamaica Estates. I would rank FHG, Malba (Whitestone) and Douglaston Manor the top 3 areas in Queens with Jamaica Estates a distant 4th...maybe

DUde, if you can afford Forest Hills go for it. That's where I am aiming to live after I finish with my degree. It may not have a ton of bars...but that's what the train is for. . You take that a few stops in...get a little drunk..then you don't have to worry about driving drunk..just stumble back on the subway. Forest Hills is kind of like one of the golden ticket areas of Queens

Jamaica Estates is only a distant 4th if you include the area within two or three blocks of Hillside Ave. I'd say out of the four, Malba would be the least desirable, since it's the most remote (Douglaston Manor is at least close to the LIRR) and doesn't have the historic appearance of the other three. Malba is kind of like what I imagine the suburbs in California to look like.

Like with any neighborhoods, there are appeals to each area in a different way. I would presume Malba's appeal is its isolation & proximity to the water.
If proximity to mass transit is a priorty then FHG & Jamaica Estate would be the most desirable.

Please, please, tell this to everybody you know!! We do NOT need to be the next Park Slope, etc. At least not before prices fall a little further and I can buy something!

Not too many Hasidics in Forest Hills the last time I checked. There's a difference between Orthodox/Conservative Jews and Hassidics. There are many of the former in Forest Hills, but not too many of the later to my knowledge.
